Audience

Codemotion Milan has drawn about 2000 attendees in 2016, and we are expecting nothing less for 2017. Most of them are experienced IT professionals
Our audience generally breaks down into:

  • 30% CTO and tech leads
  • 45% Senior Developers
  • 15% Junior Developers
  • 10% Students

What do our attendees look for?

Since our conference attracts developers, IT professionals and tech lovers with different professional backgrounds and levels of experience we are looking for talks which provide them with:

  • showcase of technical excellence, latest research and cutting-edge technologies;
  • hands-on knowledge that could be useful for their job;
  • best practices and case studies that can help them become better developers;
  • Code! Code! Code! Remember to show some lines of code and some demos;
  • Inspirational talks and visions on how technology is shaping the future;
  • Talks with great contents, which do not hold some hidden marketing intent.

Level

Codemotion talks are sorted in 4 levels:

  • Beginner – Introductory talk on a cutting edge technology/framework/language etc. Keep always in mind, even when you are delivering a beginner session, that your audience is going to be made up of IT, experienced professionals: so avoid presenting the very basis of your topic.
  • Intermediate – a detailed analysis on some aspects of well-known technologies, issues, topics
  • Advanced – a deep dive talk for a keen and skillful audience. This is the talk you’d wish to attend to learn something new on your key topic.
  • Non-technical/ for everyone – a wide-ranging and far-reaching proposal on cross-cutting themes: personal career experience and points of view will be highly appreciated.

Our attendees are very demanding: they expect to get a real improvement of their knowledge by attending our Conference, so please try to uplift the level of your talk, when you submit an intermediate/advanced session, as well as a beginner one.

The audience of our Tech Conference is getting more international and skilled every year: our main aim is to offer them a real opportunity of growth in the most multicultural oriented environment. Keep this in mind when you choose the level and the language of your proposal.

Sessions length
Codemotion format is made by several parallel tracks: each session, Keynotes included, is 40 minutes long.

Selection Process

We usually receive an average of 400 proposals for a Codemotion event: we choose the best 100/120 ones to complete the Codemotion Milan agenda.
The incoming proposals are collected through a public call for papers and they are evaluated separately by both tech communities and the Program Committee.
The agenda is created by the Program Committee, on the basis of the outcome of the voting process and the topics chosen for the agenda.
All speakers who have applied will be contacted via email: the selected ones will be reached out about two months before the event, those not selected about one month before the event.

Guidelines

Topics
We do appreciate originality and real case studies: consider what could be useful to our audience, according to your experience. Also, if you want to present a talk you have already delivered elsewhere, try to add a twist, some fresh touch.

Title your talk
The title of your talk is probably the hardest part of your application: it should immediately grab the attention of the people. Keep it short, memorable, compelling, with a touch of personality, easily hinting at what it refers to. Be specific about the focus your talk will have.

Culture & Language
In case you are giving a talk in a place where dominant language or culture is not your own, we would recommend finding someone who could represent your ideal audience, to review your talk and slides to avoid things that would be inappropriate or not understood by the attendees.

Need help? or first-time speaker?
If you are not sure how to craft the perfect application or how to deliver a session that rocks, feel free to contact us to ask for help: our Program Committee or some members of the Communities will be glad to provide feedbacks.

Invite a Speaker!
Codemotion is always eager to meet new talented speakers. If you are in touch with someone who might bring value to Codemotion, please extend them our invite to apply for our Call for Papers.

Video/Slides/Pictures
We will record and share on our media channel sessions, slide decks, live demos, pictures.
We will also upload on our Slideshare channel the slides of all the sessions.
We hope you agree with us, otherwise, let us know, we will work things out.

Diversity and Underrepresented groups
We are really committed to creating the most inclusive tech Conferences ever, hence we do support applications from underrepresented groups. Check our Code of Conduct.
